Everyone knows that family has a large influence on children and how they learn to deal with situations, all kinds of relationships and how to live life the best way they can. Doing a variety of different activities with a family will help everyone develop skills and experience new lessons in a fun way. Below is a list of activities you might want to try with your kids over this Family Day long weekend.
This is a great activity for the whole family. A child learns how to read maps and understand GPS tracking. It gets everyone working together figuring out the clues while enjoying the great outdoors.
Do-it-yourself pottery painting studios have been growing in popularity over the last couple of years. This is a wonderful way to get everyone’s creative juices flowing and their artistic flare going. Afterwards, you have these unique pieces of pottery to put on display and associate fond memories with.
We live in Canada so unfortunately the weather only allows us to enjoy playing in lakes and rivers for a few short months of the year. Thankfully that’s where indoor water parks come in. There we can splash around in the water all year long. It is a fun way for the family to exercise without even realizing it.
Games are a great way to help kids learn new skills or hard lessons. For younger kids, UNO can help them remember their colours and numbers. For older children Monopoly helps them learn about money. This is also the best way to teach them to win gracefully and to also learn that you can’t always win.
Breakfast is often a mad rush to make sure everyone is ready for the day and to get people where they need to be in the morning. At lunchtime, family members are most likely at work, daycare or school. Hopefully, dinner time is when people can slow down and sit together to eat. It is a perfect opportunity to ban all electronic devices such as television, cell phones, and video games consoles from the table. Make dinner a time to talk, listen and learn about each person’s day or have people bring a topic for everyone to discuss.
