Simplify Your Life Week is August 1st to 7th

Simplify Your Life

August days are often called “the lazy days of summer” and appropriately, the first week in August is designated as ‘Simplify Your Life’ week.  We’re meant to take a break from the regular daily hustle and bustle and enjoy the simple life for a short time; the feeling of just letting life go by as you sit back, relax and recharge your batteries.  Of course, most of us think that is a luxury only “other people” can afford.  But not to worry. There are many ways to simplify your life, to help remove the physical, mental and financial clutter…so when August 1st rolls around next year, it may be easier to not only enjoy a week of the “simple life”, but to make every day less stressful.

Ways to Simplify Your Life

Use Your Phone’s Calendar App

 Smartphone Apps

Every smartphone comes with a calendar app. This easily helps you schedule your day-to-day life and lets you set up alerts, so you never have to worry about missing an appointment.  Plus, with Apple Calendar or Google Calendar, there is an option for your family members to sync their phones to the calendar too. This alleviates the stress of double booking or scheduling too much on one day. Genius.

Get Your Finance Back into Black

Money & Budgeting

Having any kind of debt will add stress to your life. Maybe it’s time to write down all your expenses so you can figure out what the source of your debt is. Small adjustments to unnecessary expenditures can make a huge difference. It may seem like that would take a lot of that time you don’t have…but trust me, a couple of hours of organization is the first step to de-stressing your financial worry. Next, make a plan on how to pay off the debt. There are lots of websites that can help you with a plan. Once you have a plan to start paying off your debts, you will lose the stress of trying to make payments and breathe easier.

Sit in Peace

Taking just 5 minutes a day to sit by yourself and take a deep breath will help you reflect on your day. You will learn to enjoy your inner world. This is a good way to clear out distractions and help you focus on what’s really important.

Watch Less TV/Social Media

Social media

Everyone knows both television and social media are not only time wasters, but can generate unreal expectations and negative emotions. Reducing those wasted hours will lessen your exposure to those expectations and the constant pessimism in your life, which in turn reduces stress. You don’t need to go cold turkey. Just promise yourself to watch one less show, or spend half an hour less on social media. Once you start to enjoy your free time to pursue other activities, you might find that you increase that time to several hours a day, a perfect way to simplify your life.

Start Saying ‘NO’ More

We have a tendency to say ‘yes’ to everything, worried that we will miss out on something or hurt someone’s feelings. But we quickly find ourselves overextended, which complicates our life creating even more stress. Try saying ‘yes’ to only the things that matter the most to you and no to everything else. Remember, you don’t have to please everyone all the time!

Simplifying your life boils down to two very simple things. First, identify what’s most important to you. Second, eliminate everything else. While you just learned 5 ways to make things easier in your life, the following two articles will give other suggestions you might want to try.

Remember to start off small.  Choose just one or two of the suggested de-stressors and build from that. Otherwise, you may create more stress for yourself and the whole point of simplifying your life will be lost.
