Bill Coville Sr., President of On-Hold Marketing, was in the record pressing industry in the 1980’s. One day, when he was put on hold by a supplier, Bill noticed how time dragged on when listening to nothing but silence. Why not have music playing for customers, or even better, why not have a recording of someone sharing company information and promotions? He had an epiphany! Bill would create a company for that sole purpose. By 1987, On-Hold Marketing Inc. was fully operational.
How On-Hold Marketing progressed
Over the next 26 years, On-Hold Marketing grew from an operation of several sales reps and an assistant, or Jill of all trades…scriptwriter/receptionist/bookkeeper. Today we boast a fully staffed, state-of-the-art studio, a sales team, professional copywriters and a complete support staff. Our professional team can easily handle our 7000 clients, yet we’re still small enough to give each client that personal touch. Playback equipment has changed quite a bit since the late 1980’s too. The only option back then was a standard tape recorder with a loop tape. Tapes were custom wound so messages would continuously play on a regular tape recorder. As with other media, advancements in technology now allows On-Hold to send client productions via e-mail in MP3 or .wav file formats or even directly to an IP based unit.
The future of On-Hold Marketing
And what are On-Hold’s plans for the future? We could easily say, like many other companies: “it is our desire to continue to develop and grow”. But we’re not going to say that! That would be just plain boring and way too easy. Instead, we are going to say: On-Hold is planning to take social media by storm. We’re going to give our website a face lift to make it even more user-friendly. And, we’re ramping up our music and talent options in order to provide more options.
