Civic Long Weekend & Interesting Facts About August

SummerSummer is just flying by! Why can’t winter be like that…lol. We are about to head into the second last long weekend of the summer, so enjoy it while the hot weather is here because it will be gone before you know it. Our employees will be doing just that this long weekend. On-Hold Marketing will be closed from 1:30pm on Friday, August 4th until Tuesday, August 8 to enjoy this warm summer weather.

AugustAugust is an interesting month with lots of facts, trivia and events surrounding it and taking place in it. Here a few tidbits of trivia you might not know about the 8th month.

  • August was named in honour of Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar, nephew to Julius Caesar.
  • The reason why both August & July have 31 days is because Augustus wanted as many days as Julius Caesar’s month of July had.

  • In 1981 MTV made its debut and the first music video they played was The Buggles’ “Video Killed the Radio Star”.
  • On Aug 2nd, 1776 the official signing of the United States Declaration of Independence took place.
  • The Anglo-Saxon called August “Weodmonath” meaning “weed month”.

  • Aug 20th, 1630, Lemonade was first served in Paris, France.
  • The August full moon is known as Dog Day’s Moon.
