It seems that Christmas (the holiday season) has more traditions attached to it than any other holiday during the year. Christmas/holiday traditions are very family oriented and date back decades and even centuries with customs being passed down from one generation to the next. Some of those traditions are shared by many families and some are unique to individual families.
Below are some popular Christmas and holiday traditions. Some of them you might recognize as ones your own family does every year. Bur you may also see some that you didn’t even think of doing, until now!
Baking From Scratch: For most of us the holiday season seems to be the only time we are willing to set our busy schedules aside and bake from scratch, usually using family recipes that have been handed down to us.
Mail Holiday Cards: Christmas time is the only time of the year when everyone gets excited to open the mailbox. People can’t wait to see all the Christmas cards they have received.
Decorating The Christmas Tree: There is nothing quite like gathering the family together one evening to decorate the Christmas tree. You know some will be swearing under their breath setting up the lights, and everyone will have a different opinion on what looks just right – that’s just part of the fun.
Opening One Gift On Christmas Eve: Every kid looks forward to opening the one gift on Christmas eve, even if they already know what is inside the beautiful package before they open it…PJ’s!
Watching Classic Holiday Movies: You just can’t have Christmas without seeing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Miracle on 34th Street and a host of other traditional favourites.
Driving Around to See People’s Light Displays: There is something special about cruising the neighbourhood to see all the gorgeous holiday light displays that your neighbours have put their time, effort and creativity into for everyone’s holiday enjoyment.
Creating Ornaments: Have your kids make one ornament each year. This will help create a Christmas tree of stories and give your family a good laugh in later years as the kids try to figure out exactly what that misshapen clump was supposed “to be”.
This is just a small list of some Christmas/holiday traditions your family might partake in during this holiday season. Looking for new traditions? Check out https://www.popsugar.com/moms/Family-Holiday-Traditions-Start-39202460 for great ideas.
