Happy Victoria Day

We have survived another crazy winter in Ontario and now the wait is over. The Victoria Day long weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer, and as tradition would have it, time to start enjoying the great outdoors again, with fingers crossed for good weather. This weekend people will be busy with a variety of outdoor activities including getting their hands dirty in the garden, pitching tents in provincial parks, traveling to cottage country to open the cottage or sitting on outdoor patios with friends and good food & drink. And, if you’re not excited about any of those activities, there are plenty of events happening around the GTA and throughout Ontario for you to experience.

Around Toronto

Beer Cheering

Do you love beer? You might want to check out the Spring Beerfest TO This is a rain or shine event that is held at Fort York Garrison Common. Enjoy a great selection of beer and the host of food trucks.

Do you enjoy arts and crafts? The Distillery District is hosting the Artfest at the Distillery Browse and shop a variety of art from photography, pottery, fine crafts, jewelry and more from top Canada’s artists.

Newmarket has their Moonlight Movies where your whole family can enjoy an outdoor movie projected onto an inflatable screen. On May 20th they will be showing “Trolls” at the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons at 8:45pm.

Mississauga is kicking off summer with a Pep Rally with a dinosaur, robot and confetti dance party. Along with the dance party, enjoy a rock climbing wall, petting zoo, Dino Excavation Pits and more. This event is a must do for the kids.

Fishing In Ontario

Are you ready to cast your reel? Hastings Midnight Madness celebrates the opening of the fishing season at the Hastings Bridge. Participate and maybe your catch will net a prize.

The Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s major events kick off with the Victoria Day SpeedFest in Bowmanville. With 3 Canadian series to watch ‘Canadian Touring Car Championship’, ‘IMSA Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada’ and ‘Nissan Micra Cup Series’ there will be major action for the whole family.

It seems that most cities and towns will have fireworks displays planned for the weekend. Check out your local municipality website to see when and where the firework display is near you.

Of course this list is just the tip of the iceberg of what’s going on in Ontario during the Victoria Day long weekend. Just remember whatever you do, be safe!
